7 Ways to Make the Most of MommyCon

Reading time: 2 minutes

It’s that special time of year, you have cabin fever, the kids are getting restless, and everyone needs to stretch their legs. There’s no better time to venture out to Mommycon and explore all the awesome baby & child products that are available. You’ll find educational sessions, tasty treats, show specials, giveaways and these 7 steps will help you make the most of your Mommycon Experience.

1. Nursing in Public

If you’ve ever wanted to try nursing in public, NOW IS THE TIME. You will never be surrounded by a more accepting and supportive group of people. Everyone knows nursing is natural and a healthy way to calm and engage your little one. So take a deep breath, do it, and don’t stress. And if you’re more comfortable nursing (or pumping) in private, you won’t be “let down” (smile) because there’s a lactation lounge ! *Oh and don’t forget to visit Rumina Nursingwear! It’s easy to see how their nursing tank and our breastfeeding clip make a perfect pair!

2. Sleep Happens

There’s plenty of activities for little ones at Mommycon…they’ll want to snack, explore, and then….sleep. When children are tired, the dull roar of exhibit hall chatter lulls them right to sleep. So bring a stroller or carrier to accommodate your sleeping beauty. While a stroller might slow your roll, it can also double as a shopping cart, which is a huge bonus :)

3. Shop Smart

This is a unique opportunity to find products you can’t get anywhere else.  Not to mention, you can also score discounted show specials. So if you want to try cloth diapers or other ecofriendly goods, give Charlie Banana a try, this is a great opportunity to learn more. If you see something you LOVE, buy it, or somebody else will. YOU WILL NOT find a better price or a broader selection anywhere;

4. Scope out attendees before you arrive.

Exhibit halls can get crowded and overwhelming, be sure to scope out educational sessions, activities, and vendors before you arrive. That way you won’t miss that swaddling session, newborn photographer, or that product you wanted to see. You can find the list of exhibitors and events here!  Don’t forgot to stop by and see us, LatchPal by Happy Fig & Time Snap Shop (awesome photo boards) , at Booth #819.

5. Playtime & Development

Keep an eye out for  sensory and parent invented products that appeal to your child’s sensory needs, appealing to their touch, sight and developmental milestones. You’ll find everything from colorful chompy chic teethers to tye dyes and super undies (that make potty training easier). So browse with an open mind and enjoy what you find!

6. Baby Wearing

If you haven’t found the perfect carrier, NOW IS THE TIME. You can try on carriers of all sorts and sizes. If you’re looking for a woven wrap, that doubles as a ring sling, Tekhni Wovens should be at the top of your list. But if you’re looking for a wrap style carrier without the actual “wrapping”, I highly recommend the Baby K’tan. I love mine because it doubles as an infinity nursing scarf when it’s not in use and it can also be used as a convenient nursing cover!

7. Community

Parenting is an adventure and we can learn a lot from one another. We agree with Mama Said Tees, Kindness is the New Cool! After you pick up one of their graphic tees (smile) be sure to mingle with Moms & Dads, snap a few selfies, and hold the door if you can. This is YOUR event, YOUR community, YOUR tribe; embrace it and enjoy!

breastfeeding shirt clipWritten by Melissa LaHann, Founder and CEO of Happy Fig, LLC
Like many moms before her, Melissa cradled her hungry, crying baby as she clumsily adjusted her bra and sat uncomfortably holding up her shirt. Before she knew it, her baby was squirming, her shirt was falling, and the nursing session was interrupted. She needed a better solution, so she created LatchPal, the first nursing clip of its kind.
LatchPal is a breastfeeding shirt clip that holds up a mother’s shirt during breastfeeding. It eliminates shirt re-positioning and feeding disruptions, and helps a mom nurse hands-free in comfort to maximize milk flow. LatchPal was designed with moms in mind. The multi-use solution only requires one hand to latch. It’s a must-have breastfeeding accessory and essential for post-partum moms, pumping moms, and nursing in public.
